Could you live without your mobile phone? How much is it worth to you? In just a few years, mobile phone technology has fundamentally changed the way we work, shop, communicate, entertain ourselves and in countless other ways. It's driven huge value and created enormous number of jobs. Can policy makers and infrastructure providers keep up?
According to a new report by the Boston Consulting Group, consumers in developed economies value mobile tech at more than $6,000 per year, or 12 percent of their income. In developing economies such as China and India, the value of mobile exceeds 40 percent of average income. In fact, the majority of people surveyed were willing to give up dining out or going on vacation for a year in order to keep their mobile phones.
